This course is fully online with no physical meeting space, accessing the course through Canvas our virtual learning environment and zoom a video conferencing software. You will need a reliable internet connection, access to a computer or internet linked device with camera and microphone. We will email you links to canvas and zoom, please accept these to access the course, the sender will show as “instructure”, without these you will not be able to access the course. It is a good idea to do this with time before the course so if you are having issues you can contact us to make us aware. This is a Spanish course for beginners. It is suitable for learners with no previous knowledge or those with some very basic knowledge who wish to refresh their knowledge. In this introductory course students will learn the basic building blocks of the language and how to use it in basic conversations.

Creative Writing and Mindfulness View details

This course focuses on the creative process and uses a simple technique for generating narrative ideas using image prompts. After looking at the creative writing process and its benefits in terms of self-awareness and mindfulness, participants will be encouraged to observe their immediate environments and feelings through simple observation and writing exercises.

Creative Writing Taster View details

This taster session will demonstrate what it's like to study creative writing online. You will be introduced to Zoom and Canvas (the WEA's online learning platform) and complete a short writing exercise. This informal and supportive session is suitable for beginners as well as those with previous creative writing experience.

Creative Writing Taster View details

This taster day, taught by a published writer, demonstrates via a single exercise the sort of work students would do on a creative writing course. In a couple of hours, students will create and discuss a piece of work from a single topic. The course is also open to regular WEA creative writing students, who just want to add an extra exercise to their repertoire.

Creative Writing: Writing the Past and Imagining the Future View details

Using the WEA's online learning platform Canvas and live-time online teaching sessions via Zoom, students will explore a range of creative writing exercises and activities. In a virtual setting, we will look at writing about the past and creating future fantasies - whether these are true-to-life, hopes, dreams or pure fictions. You will be encouraged to let your imaginations loose and use prose, poetry or other creative means to explore any time but the present. Working to individual levels and interests, we will look at creating characters, developing plot and using different settings and styles to tell your stories.There will be a mix between creative writing exercises encouraging you to develop your own writing style, and workshops, where you will be supported to share and constructively critique writing produced by others. Everyone will be encouraged to share their writing but nobody will be expected to do so until they are ready. A relaxed, informal course for enjoyment.

French Taster View details

This taster session designed to introduce you to some of the basics of the French language and to give you some insight into the French lifestyle and culture and/or help you brush up your French knowledge. In this fun and lively session, you will learn how to greet people and introduce yourself and also will introduce you to some basic French language grammar to get you started. This is an online session and you will need a reliable internet connection, a computer with a camera and a microphone. An invitation to this session will be emailed to you with a link to Canvas, our virtual learning platform (you need to accept it to be able to attend the session) and a link to a Zoom meeting.

This is a short complete beginners’ course designed to help you develop some basic speaking and listening skills in Greek and gain an insight into the Greek lifestyle and culture. In a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, you will be introduced to some basic everyday language and you will have plenty of opportunity to practise key words and phrases in a fun and enjoyable way through a variety of activities, including games and role plays.
