This course encompasses key dressmaking skills to prepare students for self-employment in the textile industry. Students will develop sewing machine skills, learn how to take accurate measurements and produce a garment from scratch. Students will also acquire marketing skills such as building a facebook page in order to advertise themselves and their work.

Creative Textiles View details

The course will introduce you to textiles as an art form. Taking an experimental approach to textiles, learners will gain a grounding in a range of creative techniques. They will have the chance to experiment with a variety of processes whilst working with both traditional and alternative materials.

Opportunities will be provided to develop your skills in recording directly from observation with both pencil and ink studies. You will produce some direct printing samples and transfer prints. These will be stitched together after studying the work by the Artist Cas Holmes and further embellishments will be made with hand and machine stitches.

This course will introduce learners to sewing, cutting and pressing techniques used in dressmaking. The course is suitable for beginners and is also an opportunity for learners with existing sewing experience to refresh or enhance their dressmaking skills.

Dressmaking and Craft Sewing View details

Each week you will be shown a sewing related demonstration. You are required to reproduce the sample for a folder of work to show your learning and development on the course. Once the class work is complete you can continue with your own personal project. The idea is that the samples demonstrated and produced can feed into your own work to enhance it, it will also broaden your craft sewing and dressmaking knowledge. You must produce the samples each week and produce a folder of work which you can use for a reference file. During your time on your personal project the tutor will encourage and support your needs.
