Decoration techniques to be covered will be impression, coloured slips, underglazes and oxides and glazing. Own designs and ideas will be encouraged and developed. Create a Sign for Walk the Line View details

Enjoy being creative and love the outdoors? Why not come along and create a waymarker sign to be used to guide walkers around the Bowes Railway Heritage Trail? We’ll be showing you step by step how to make a simple mosaic arrow, ( with your own personal touch), which will be displayed on the trail. Create your own little piece of history! As part of the day you’ll get the chance to take part in a guided walk around the trail (optional) and at the end of the day you can have your photograph taken with your finished sign. Bring a packed lunch or enjoy a snack from the Bowes tearoom.

Introduction to Pottery View details

This course is designed to enable students to design and use hand building techniques to create pottery items based on the theme of the countryside. This could include looking closely at the forms and textures found in plants and animals who inhabit the countryside. Students will be encouraged to develop skills in the use of different clay construction techniques, develop confident in the use of tools and found objects to texture work. Build knowledge of the application of glazes and underglazes to add colour to clay work.

Pottery View details

This course is designed to enable students to develop handbuilding techniques to create a range of pottery work inspired by the theme of the Countryside. Students will be encouraged to research and select aspects of the theme they find interesting for the focus for their clay work. They will use different methods of shaping and forming the clay including slabbing ,coiling and using plaster moulds. Surface texture explored by the use of tools, pushing objects into the clay and working in relief. Colour added by brushing and sponging glazes and underglazes onto the clay surface that reflects what has been observed.
