Using a computer can make your life easier and open up many new opportunities for you. This course covers basic skills such as using a keyboard, a mouse and understanding the basic functions of a laptop including how to turn it on and off plus other useful controls and settings. You will learn the importance of staying safe online, connecting to Wi-Fi networks, setting up an email account and using the internet to access useful information and services such as banking, employment opportunities and shopping etc.

Exploring Art: Reality and Escapism View details

This course will explore the ways in which Art can be used to relate to different situations. We will use a range of examples of paintings by various artists (mainly from the 19th & 20th centuries) to relate to the considerable changes experienced in the last couple of years throughout the pandemic, exploring themes which will include views from windows and balconies, the surreal parallels and contrasts of empty and busy cities. There will be a focus on the way in which things we have experienced can be related to examples in Art helping us to understand & also the way in which paintings provide a form of escapism. In the final session, we will look at co-occurring conditions, assessments and Education, Health and Care plans (EHCPs)

Sewing at WHIST View details

Sewing at WHIST will provide you with basic sewing techniques, safe use of the sewing machine and an understanding of working from a commercial pattern with a view to making simple items of clothing/soft furnishings or altering existing ones. This course will take you through cutting the correct size pattern, laying the pattern onto the fabric, assembling garment pieces together, sewing a garment. The course will also show you how to alter existing garments.
