Over the past two years we have all had a lot of time to rethink our purpose and reflect on what it is we actually want to be doing. For many there has been unfortunate job losses and sadly illness has impacted who we are which has led to the increase in people becoming interested in starting their own business. This could be the course for you if you have the idea but lack the experience and knowledge of business start up. At WEA we have developed a short program to help you navigate through the many elements involved in business start up and stability, especially in uncertain times. You will be learning from someone who is currently in business and has worked in many types of sectors whilst also tutoring for the WEA.

Course aim

Beginner business is a practical introduction to how to set up and run a small business gaining understanding of the principles of business and applying it to your own cottage industry or online store.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Learners will be able to identify the key elements of different types of business start up from social enterprise/ sole trader / and Limited company
  • Learners will be introduced to the basics of business principles: accounts/ visioning/ business goals/ values/ trends
  • Learners will understand the key trends in the market place and solve a societal problem with your business solution-Business solution focused
  • Learners will be able to list the key elements of a Business Plan using the Business Canvas Model
  • Learners will be able to demonstrate what a business mind-set is and how entrepreneurship can solve issues and create jobs
