The course involves preparation of growing area. Planning what suitable plants to grow and in what, raised beds, pots and open ground. How to protect from common pests i.e. cages. What to grow in a Poly Tunnel, Cloche. Making compost, what to include and not to include.

Course aim

The course is about growing vegetables from seed, this involves planning, ground preparation and methods to protect seedlings and plants. It involves tending and cultivating plants by weeding and feeding them.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Plan what you want to grow and methods of seed growing, Trays, Pots or open ground. Also learn in what months to sow seeds.
  • How to prepare the ground, laying membrane for weed control, what manure to use and how it will be used.
  • Recognize pests that can harm plants, Black Fly, White Fly, Green Fly, Slugs, Birds, Rabbits for example. Know methods that will protect plants cages, netting.
  • Making compost, what to use and not to use.
  • Growing produce in a Poly Tunnel, Cloche and their maintenance.
