Preparing ground by planning when to grow, how to grow, making and using raised beds, using a Cloche to raise plants from seed. Erecting a Poly Tunnel to grow crops. How to protect crops, identify things that could go wrong and how to remedy. Also Health and Safety aspects when gardening.

Course aim

Introduce clients to all aspects of gardening, so that they become confident in preparing ground for growing vegetables and flowers.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Design growing areas, making Raised Beds, growing produce in a Poly Tunnel, Cloche and how to erect them.
  • How to make compost, what to include and what not to include.
  • How to control weeds by using a membrane, this can be bought or use material such as cardboard.
  • Identify common pests such as Black Fly, White Fly and how to deal with such. Protecting crops from Birds, Rabbits etc by erecting cages.
  • How to produce plant food from natural resources i.e. Nettles
