GMCA - The Care Certificate and Interview Success

This interactive course will help you to prepare for work in a care setting. We will cover key elements of the Care Certificate ( ) and support you to write a CV and prepare for interviews. We will be learning together as a committed team, with some fun along the way. There will be discussions and quizzes, and tasks to complete. In the three weeks, we cover different roles in care, values and ways of working, mental health, dementia and learning disabilities, and communication skills. In Week 2 we focus on the Duty of care, care planning and working in a person-centred way, equality and diversity, handling information, privacy and dignity, safeguarding adults and fluids and nutrition. During the course, we will focus on preparing you for an interview and update your CV ready for a care role. You will receive a record of achievement from the WEA to take on to your placement.

This course is offered as part of the Step into Care program and is open to residents of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority only.

Course aim

This interactive course provides an introduction, and the support needed, to prepare you to work in an adult social care setting. It is suitable for those who need to refresh their knowledge and the inexperienced.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • List key elements of the Care Certificate
  • Describe and explain key elements of the Care Certificate
  • Apply your knowledge of the Care Certificate standards to case studies
  • Produce a CV to support your applications to roles in the adult care sector.
  • Evidence your knowledge of Interview preparation by completing a quiz.

You will need access to the internet, a computer, laptop, or smartphone and a pen and notepad Please note down the dates of all of your education, previous work/ volunteer experience. Don't worry if you have been out of work - you will be able to record transferable skills from your life.
