Introducing the Poetry of Elizabeth Jennings (one-session course)

Often an overlooked writer, Elizabeth Jennings' poetry ranks alongside work by contemporaries such as Philip Larkin and Thom Gunn. This course will examine a small selection of her poems to provide an insight into her stylistic range and emotional depth: 'A company of Friends', 'One Flesh' and 'Resurrection'.

Course aim

To introduce students to a selection of poems by Elizabeth Jennings and to assess her contribution to the poetry of her time

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify the stylistic choices made by the writer
  • Recognise the emotional and thematic range explored in the poems
