Creative Writing: Story Conflict Plotting and Dialogue

Ref: C3847038

The course looks at such areas as Plotting, Sub-Plots, Character Archetypes, Conflict Development and much much more. The course aims to equip you with the necessary skills by which to improve your present Story Narratives. The Tutor aims to make the course a friendly but very informative experience. There is a piece of Homework set at the end of each session based on that week's class topic. Clips from Films (well known and sometimes not so well known!) will sometimes be used during to illustrate learning points and the class is structured in such a way to be helpful to both the more advanced and the less advanced writers in the class

Course aim

The course aims to improve understanding of the issues around Plotting and Story Construction for Novels, Film Scripts and Stage Plays. The Tutor himself has Professional Writing Credits having had work produced in main UK Theatres.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Write a plot that sustains interest.
  • Write convincing and authentic sounding dialogue that serves various dramatic functions.
  • Identify clearly any given story's narrative aim and the conventions around that story.
  • Identify the elements that make a story work correctly

How will I be taught?

What kind of feedback can I expect?

What else do I need to know?

The course is developed in such a way that exercises can be applied to any piece of long-term writing that the Learner is presently engaged upon outside of the class itself (It is not however a disadvantage in any way if a Learner does not have such an outside project in place )
