This course is designed to introduce basic business tools and methods for people who are interested in starting their own craft business. There will be a focus on exploring different strategies on how to turn a craft-making skill into a business. Participants will discuss how to write mission and vision statements, and the importance of creating a business plan. They will complete the course with a clear step by step plan to take realistic actions to move forward with confidence and clarity.

Course aim

To provide a brief introduction to the steps of setting and running a craft business with a focus on writing vision and mission statements, creating a business plan, choosing the right social media tools for online visibility and presence.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for improvers
  • There is no experience required to participate in this course. If you are interested in turning your craft skills into a business, this is a good start.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explore the possibilities of producing products or services by using a craft as a medium.
  • Discuss why it is important to create a business plan and explore different business plan templates.
  • Create a mission and vision statement in relation to the personal choices of craft businesses.
  • Discuss different social media platforms to create an online presence.
  • Create a personal action plan to follow during and after the course to take steps forward in setting and running a craft business.
