During this course you will develop your practical skills and understanding of different techniques you can use to create stitched samples. You will need to build a portfolio of samples to evidence your skills.
Course aim
During this course you will learn how to use a sewing machine to make a variety of stitched samples.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Identify Health & Safety regulations and risks relating to tools and equipment
- Describe the controls and functions on a sewing machine
- Select appropriate tools and equipment to create fashion samples
- Cut templates and fabric accurately, for example inserting and making the zip sample
- Demonstrate your practical sewing skills by producing a range of presentation samples
What else do I need to know?
- What you need: You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. If you’d like to understand more Zoom please visit: http://bit.ly/ZoomSpec - You will also need access to the internet outside of your sessions. You could do this using a smart phone, tablet, laptop or a desktop computer (at home or through a library etc.). - You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas so that you can receive resources, record your progress and achievement and to work with others and share ideas. You will need to a bring a selection of fabric samples, zips etc. These can be from recycled items.
