Reduce: Crafty Recycling for Beginners

Ref: C3680354

Come and join us on this course where we will learn many different methods of crafting using recycled materials. This will include upcycling your old clothing, using scrap fabrics to make useful everyday items and reusing old papers and plastic to create unique craft supplies such as beads and buttons. We will also look at a bit of 'Make do and mend' and different methods of visible mending to give new life to old clothing.

Course aim

The aim of this course is to encourage students to reuse and recycle, and look differently at items that might otherwise be thrown away.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Restyle and reuse old worn out clothing into new, unique garments
  • Utilise at least 2 different methods of embroidery to visibly mend a tear or hole in clothing
  • Create a cute soft toy from odd or holey socks
  • Create new craft supplies from 'trash'
  • Live a little more sustainably

How will I be taught?

What kind of feedback can I expect?

What else do I need to know?

Students will need to provide their own clothing to upcycle, the requirements for each session will be discussed the week before (nothing required in week 1). Students are also welcome to bring their own craft supplies, scraps of fabric would be most welcome!
