This course is for people who are interested in making garments for their family, friends or for themselves. It will cover various aspects like using body measurements, drafting, cutting and stitching. Sewing machines and accessories will be provided in class, learners will bring fabric of their own choice and take their finished projects with them. They may make shalwar (Asian trousers), kameez (Asian shirt), choori pajama(Asian skinny pants), collar, and kameez with lining. Learners will discuss and finalize a project to work on. Course will be taught through practical tutorials, instructions and examples of the samples. Learners will be encouraged to make notes and make a file. The class environment will be fair and friendly.
Course aim
To introduce the methods and processes of producing ladies' clothes. To develop understanding of measurements, drafting, cutting and stitching techniques.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Operate a sewing machine within health and safety guidelines
- Utilize body measurements to create your own made to measure patterns.
- Demonstrate at least 3 different machine stitching techniques
- Describe and demonstrate methods and processes of making garments
- Complete at least one garment
What else do I need to know?
- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you - It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (Mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.)
