Sewing - next steps

The course will introduce you to next steps of sewing techniques and methods to draft a pattern. Create wearable garments for you and your family. The focus will be on Asian women's wear. During this course you will also learn to use digital device such as Iphone, IPad or laptop to learn features of canvas. You will also be able to work on your own new / pending projects. Learning resources will be available on Canvas. . The course is held at a Women's Centre.

Course aim

To learn the next steps of drafting a pattern for shirt/kameez, trouser. Develop confidence in using a sewing machine and also in digital devices to access the WEA learning platform. To inspire students to make their own garments.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Use a digital device to access Canvas and to complete the learning record, learning outcomes and course evaluation
  • Take body measurements
  • Transfer body measurements to draft pattern in freestyle
  • Operate a sewing machine within health and safety guidelines
  • Stitch a full garment from start to finish

Tape measure, tailor's chalk, scissors, pins, stitch opener, hand sewing needles, elastic -1 yard, pen , note pad, thread, fabric, iron-on interfacing - 1yard.
