Poetry and the Universe

Ref: C3680280

The course theme of the universe will provide a basis to explore published poems on the sun, moon, stars and planets, and related topics. We'll look at the work of traditional poets such as Louis McNeice and Gerard Manley Hopkins, and contemporary poets including Natalie Diaz and Gwyneth Lewis. These wil inspire new writing. We'll boldly go into new territory, exploring imagination and dream worlds, as well as the scientific realms of gravity, astronomy, black holes and dark matter. There will be writing prompts and exercises to produce news poems. We'll also 'workshop' students' poems to help with redrafting. A friendly and supportive group.
