Poetry Workshop: Surprised by Joy

Ref: C3680277

The course takes its title from a William Wordsworth poem, and is also inspired by the Robert Frost quote,'No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader'. We'll find sparks of joy, and other emotions, in unexpected places, try out different forms and styles, write about everyday life, art, culture and society in new and surprising ways. We'll read and discuss published poems both new and traditional, to consider what makes a poem work, and to inspire the writing of new poems. There will be timed writing exercises and prompts, as well as the chance to 'workshop' students' poems, giving and receiving helpful feedback. This will be a supportive and encouraging class for anyone interested in reading and writing poetry.
