In this course we will look at the basics to get you started in the wonderful world of crochet. The tutor will talk you through how to get started, including information about different hooks and yarns, and then we will get cracking with learning the 5 basic stitches you will need to start you on your journey. We will learn how to work "flat" and "in the round", how to read crochet patterns, how to make a granny square and by the end you should have all the skills required to make basic garmetns such as hats, scarves and mittens

Course aim

In this course students will learn the basic skills and knowledge required to get started in Crochet.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Make a crochet chain, and demonstrate double crochet, treble crochet, half treble crochet and slip stitches
  • Create an item worked "flat", such as a coaster
  • Create an item worked "in the round", such as a granny square
  • Read a basic crochet pattern
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of tension and gauge, and use this knowledge to make yourself a small garment
