New Clothes for Old! Recycling and Altering Charity Shop Finds

Ref: C3680253

Have you been waiting for that excuse to be able to learn how to fix your own clothes?  Fed up with getting someone else to do it and paying out money for that privilege?  Perhaps you have been wondering how to take something that once was great and make it shine again?  Breathing new life into old garments sat redundant in the back of the wardrobe, is that what you would like?   If that is you.  Come and join us and the Slow fashion revolution. We educate on reusing, recycling and reducing our consumption to create a slow circular earth and we want to help you to do exactly that. Ideally you will need to be able to sew to a basic level with your own sewing kit. You will need to bring a range of items to alter. You are welcome to bring and use your own sewing machine. Sewing machines, fabric scissors and unpickers can and will be provided by us at the venue.

Course aim

Join likeminded individuals to engage in environmental discussion and inspire each other to gain knowledge and the skills required to repair, fix, mend and alter your own clothes and to fully immerse yourself learning the principles of Slow Fashion.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • Assess garments and or fabric items and know what needs to be done and then plan how to upcycle and repair
  • Explain and demonstrate how to alter clothing to fit, be able to pin and prepare
  • Demonstrate how to, repair, alter, mend and or upcycle garments

How will I be taught?

What kind of feedback can I expect?

What else do I need to know?

You will need to bring a range of garments in need of some care and attention. Dependent on what needs doing to them, you may need to purchase other resources such as zips or colour matched thread. You will need: * Basic sewing kit * Some motivation and an intention to help save the planet
