Welcome to the Yoga For All course at The Corner Studio, Scarborough YMCA. Yoga is a holistic practice that improves both your physical and mental well being. We will develop awareness of breathing - encouraging you to feel calm and focused, connect breath and movement - encouraging coordination and joyful movement. We will explore a balanced range of asanas/postures adapting them to suit your own needs. All classes end with a guided deep relaxation. This course will focus on improving awareness through body scanning and exploration of somatic movements. We will take a closer look at variations of the Cobra pose and learn to truly unwind through restorative practice.

Course aim

This course aims to teach yoga as a holistic practice that benefits the student physically, mentally and emotionally - enabling the student to ensure that they move with care and respect for their own needs.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Improve flexibility through exploring somatic movements that contract, slowly release, lengthen, and relax your muscles.
  • Explore variations of the Cobra pose and improve your breathing in this pose.
  • Learn to relax and let go in a range of Restorative postures.
  • Improve your coordination through the practice of moving balances.
  • Develop your ability to body scan and awaken the joints.

Enrolment Conditions

As a registered charity, and to meet our funders’ requirements, we need to check a few things with you before you enrol. Please check the details below to ensure you meet the basic eligibility critiera:

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2021
  • You declare that the address you provide is correct and that you will provide evidence of this and your eligibility to live and work in the UK
