Chair Yoga

This course will introduce you to the practice of Chair Yoga - participants can remain seated for the whole session. This course aims to bring yoga to people who may feel that a general yoga class may not suit them for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you have arthritis, chronic fatigue, have difficulty transitioning from lying to sitting or standing ? Or you would like to try some light exercise, breathing techniques and meet new people - Chair Yoga may be the ideal activity for you. We will focus on calming breathing techniques, exercises to improve coordination and ease stiffness in the joints, simple seated postures that improve both strength and flexibility as well as a guided relaxation. Yoga improves both our physical and mental well being, helping us to release tension and to relax . There will be the option to stand for some exercises if you want to and you can also lie down for the relaxation if you prefer. Our main focus will be on enjoying the practice of Yoga in a chair.

Course aim

This course aims to enable participants to enjoy the benefits of yoga whilst remaining seated in a chair.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Practice a range of exercises that ease stiffness in the joints and help to improve your circulation.
  • Learn to focus on your breathing and to connect breath and movement - helping to improve concentration and coordination.
  • Learn how to sit properly and improve your posture.
  • Practice a balanced range of seated Yoga Poses, adapting them to suit your own body.
  • Follow a guided relaxation - improving your sense of well being.

Please wear comfortable clothing. You may wish to bring a blanket for the relaxation practice. You will be encouraged to remove your shoes for the yoga class.

  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2021
  • You declare that the address you provide is correct and that you will provide evidence of this and your eligibility to live and work in the UK
