French Intermediate

Ref: C3680142

The course is taught in a fun and friendly atmosphere by a native speaker who has many years of experience of teaching French to adults. The emphasis is on spoken French and there will be plenty of opportunities for you to engage in lively whole class or group conversations to describe and discuss current social, cultural and political issues based on the materials provided by the tutor, or materials you may want to contribute and share with the other learners. The materials consist mainly of French magazines and newspapers articles, TV news extracts or other audio or visual materials. The topics can be tailored to the learners' needs and interests on request. You will also develop your reading, listening and writing skills through a variety of stimulating activities.

Course aim

The course will help you speak the language correctly and confidently using idiomatic French and improve your knowledge of contemporary France

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for anyone interested in developing conversational skills in French, or would like to regain fluency in the French language which you learnt many years ago. Ideally you will have studied French for at least 5 years fairly recently and have a good grasp of grammar and spoken French.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Express my opinion and hold conversations on a fairly wide variety of topics with a level of fluency and spontaneity that makes communication possible without strain.
  • Understand standard speech spoken at a normal rate, and the essentials of most TV news and current affairs programmes.
  • Write clear detailed text on a range of subjects.
  • Understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics.
