On this course we will follow the development of the Impressionist movement in art from the mid 19th century up to the beginning of the 20th century. We will examine such themes as the move away from academic painting towards contemporary realism, developments in colour theory, and the influence of Japanese art. We will also focus on the work of individual artists such as Monet, Renoir and Cezanne, as well as exploring key Impressionist exhibitions.
Course aim
To introduce students to the history of the Impressionist movement, and to familiarize them with the work of Impressionist painters.
