This course will explore the ways artists have been inspired by literary subjects, from mythology to Shakespeare and Tennyson - concentrating particularly on 19th century examples. Fully illustrated with discussion.

To explore the ways artists have been inspired by literary subjects.

  • Contribute to constructive discussion about the material studied
  • Analyse & discuss a wide range of examples illustrating the theme
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the wider context of the work produced
  • Explain the significant way artists have been inspired by literature
  • Compare and contrast the approaches of different artists
