Outdoor learning: Steps to Wellbeing in the Outdoors

This practical course uses the outdoor environment to explore positive steps to our mental and physical wellbeing. You will get you outdoors and learn new skills with hands-on support and teaching. It will include elements of fun activities like Bushcraft, Woodwork, and other creative projects. There will be a short classroom focus each session, but mostly we will be getting 'stuck in' to the task of the day. You will: Meet new people; Enjoy being outside; Learn how to use some hand tools; Increase your fitness levels. You will also learn how to use the '5 steps to mental wellbeing, as a tool for health. This course welcomes everyone from our local community and help and support will be provided throughout the course.

Course aim

This practical course aims to explore the benefits of the outdoor environment to our mental and physical wellbeing.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Create a strategy for using the '5 steps to mental wellbeing'.
  • Boil water on a fire that I created with simple tools (no matches or lighter).
  • Understand a connection between mental and physical health.
  • Feel some confidence as a member of a team.

You will need sturdy footwear and appropriate outdoor clothes for all weathers. If you are attending our afternoon course too (Creative Outdoor Projects C3533341), please bring a pack lunch. Water is provided, you may wish to bring a flask of hot drink too and your own water.
