Course aim

This looks at five influential women who have shaped our ideas of English garden design and planting styles - including some we know about and some who are less well known.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand more about how some of the better known influential women influenced English garden design.
  • Identify some of the lesser known influential women and how they contributed to the history of English gardens.
  • Determine some of the design influences that specific women have had on gardens I have visited or plan to visit.

How will I be taught?

What kind of feedback can I expect?

What else do I need to know?

It would be useful to have a notebook to record information of interest from the session and group work. There will be opportunities to share any knowledge you have about these influential women.
