Taster: The Work of Alfred Hitchcock with Dr Mark Crees

Ref: C3533278

Alfred Hitchcock, famously, pops up in all of his films in fleeting cameos. There he is, the ordinary man in the street, quietly getting on with his life, out walking his dogs, carrying a cello off a train, or sitting on a bus with a bird cage on his lap. This is who I am, he seems to say, almost too ordinary to notice. And yet the imagination of this apparently inauspicious, polite looking gentleman was nothing if not explosive. Hitchcock's cinema is aflame with desire, self-doubt and mounting anxieties. To watch a Hitchcock film is to find yourself in the hands of a master storyteller with a tormented heart, an artist with an acutely psychological style of directing. We will explore a few clips from Hitchcock films and share our own thoughts on how he manages to hook us in, and, more often than not, terrify us. This taster is intended as a prequel to another forthcoming attraction: a six week course on the films of both Alfred Hitchcock and Charlie Chaplin.
