Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women was an immediate best seller on its publication in 1868-9, and has remained in the affection of successive generations of readers and, through its film adaptations, cinemagoers ever since. But what do we know of its author? This session will give an introduction to the life of Louisa May Alcott, including her unconventional upbringing, her family’s involvement in the Transcendentalist movement, and her support for early feminism.
