Keyham and Plymouth Hidden Treasures

During the five weeks we will explore how and why the 3 settlements of Sutton, Stonehouse and Devonport were created and evolved into the areas we know today, while discovering some of the hidden gems dotted around the city given clues and bearing testament to the fascinating and intriguing history of our city. We will give special attention to the community of Keyham and how it served as the lifeblood to the Naval Dockyard and together develop ways to share and promote the hidden gems ( both physical and the characters who lived/live in the area) who laid the foundations of the strong community spirit that remains to this day.

Course aim

This short course will help you discover some of the hidden gems in Keyham and the surrounding area. We’ll learn a little of the local history and how this has helped create the unique community we know today.

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • know how 3 towns merged to form city of Plymouth
  • discover at least 3 hidden gems of Plymouth
  • to understand why Keyham was created and how it evolved
  • to explore ways in which the hidden gems of Keyham can be shared with the wider community
