Artists and Easter with David Brindley

Ref: C3533096

The story of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus has been at the forefront of western art for 2,000 years - from early inscriptions in the catacombs, medieval altarpieces and Leonardo’s Last Supper, to the twentieth century works of artists such as Marc Chagall and Graham Sutherland. This course examines the gospel narratives of the events of Holy Week and Easter and investigates how they have been interpreted by artists through the centuries.

Course aim

This course examines the variety of artistic responses to the stories of the death and resurrection of Jesus in the gospels. Extensively illustrated, it looks at several centuries of art and how art and faith have interacted.
