Through an examination of Atwood's context and purpose in writing 'The Handmaid's Tale and 'The Testaments' we will draw conclusions about feminist perspectives in her writing.
Course aim
This course will examine the context and purpose of two of Atwood's dystopian novels 'The Handmaid's Tale' and 'The Testaments'.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Understand the plot and characters in both novels.
- Understand the context in which Atwood wrote the novels.
- Understand Atwood's purpose in writing the novels.
- Consider a feminist perspective of Atwood's writing through close analysis of these two texts.
What else do I need to know?
You may like to have copies of the two texts but as this course is online this is not compulsory as text will be shared online via Zoom.
