L1 Introduction to Early Year's Settings

This course is for anyone who wants to develop a basic knowledge of working with children up to the age of 5 in early years’ settings such as nurseries or pre-schools. As you progress through the course, you will learn about the importance of play, the roles and responsibilities of carers and volunteers and the importance of links with the local community. This course leads to the NCFE CACHE Level 1 Award in an Introduction to Early Years Settings.

Course aim

This course will provide parents/carers and volunteers with an introduction to childcare in early years environments.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers
  • Before you can join this course you will need to talk to a member of staff and do an initial assessment to make sure the course is right for you. Please call the Student Support Team on 0300 303 3464
  • It is recommended that you do a volunteer placement in a crèche or nursery while you are doing this course. This course leads to a nationally recognized qualification at Level 1. You will be required to build a portfolio of evidence.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Give three reasons why play is important to a child’s development.
  • Give three examples of how play can be used to meet children’s individual needs
  • Discuss what is meant by a safe, secure and stimulating environment
  • Discuss the role of volunteers and the community in an early years setting.
  • Use digital skills in my learning.

A work placement is not a pre-requisite for completion of this course but it is strongly recommended that learners obtain a voluntary placement in an early years setting.
