English Maths and ESOL Initial Assessment. West Midlands

Students wishing to join an EME course need to complete an initial assessment before they start. The initial assessment event is designed to test students’ current skills. During initial assessment, students will work with WEA staff to agree the current level that they are working at and discuss the best course for them to develop their skills.

THIS ASSESSMENT IS ONLY AVIALABLE TO STUDENTS IN WEST MIDLANDS REGION. Following enrolment you will receive an email or phone call to arrange an assessment. Assessments will take place during March and April 2022, you will not be contacted until March at the earliest. Following your assessment you will be invited to join the best course your level.

Course aim

This is not a course. It is an initial assessment for English, Maths and/or ESOL. At the end of the assessment you will know which course is right for you.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Identify my starting point in English, Maths or ESOL
  • Know which course is best for me
  • Enrol on a WEA English, Maths or ESOL course if one is available

Enrolment Conditions

As a registered charity, and to meet our funders’ requirements, we need to check a few things with you before you enrol. Please check the details below to ensure you meet the basic eligibility critiera:

  • You are paying the standard fee (with a credit or debit card) or you are on any of the qualifying benefits
  • You have a valid email address so that you can receive confirmation of your booking
  • You have been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years
  • You are aged 19 years or older on 1st September 2021
  • You declare that the address you provide is correct and that you will provide evidence of this and your eligibility to live and work in the UK
