This course provides a brief introduction to employment related topics such as reading and writing personal information. Developing key language in a given work area (catering, cleaning or retail) will be embedded throughout the course and students will be encouraged to take part in discussions and prepare a short presentation to develop confidence. Students will be given the oppourtunity to reflect on their own skills and personal qualities and link this to different job roles.
Course aim
This course will develop key skills to improve employment prospects (paid or voluntary) with a focus on developing language skills and building confidence.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Recognise simple safety symbols such as toilet, fire exit, danger.
- Discuss two jobs that I would like to do.
- List at least four transferable skills that I have.
- Be able to fill my details in a basic application form.
- Take part in a discussion about my basic interests.
What else do I need to know?
It would be helpful if you had access to the internet (mobile phone, tablet or computer at home or through a library etc.), writing equipment and file. Think about jobs you are interested in and any skills you currently have to apply to these, or can develop further.
