Course aim

This is a beginners Hand Embroidery course which will introduce you to the basic fundamentals of Hand Embroidery.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Review the foundation stages of stitching by hand considering cloth, threads, needles, and starting and finishing off my stitching.
  • Make a sampler with a variety of Foundation Hand Embroidery stitches to include : Chain Stitch, French Knots, Stem Stitch, Split Stitch and Back Stitch Woven Wheel.
  • Explore building a simple Pattern by combining 2 Hand Embroidery Stitches.
  • Create Patterns with a Winter Garden inspired theme.

What else do I need to know?

You will need a variety of practical materials for Hand Embroidery. A couple of pieces of fabric to fit into a small embroidery hoop. Embroidery needles (Crewel or Chenille) Autumn Coloured embroidery threads (Pearl and Stranded Cotton) small scissors. A small notebook and pen would be useful.
