Explore specialist Free-Motion Embroidery Techniques to include: Free-Running Stitch, Granit Stitch, Cabling, Whip Stitch, Decorative Stitches and using Water Soluble Stabilisers. Throughout these sessions you will be given live demonstrations and have the opportunity to produce a variety of samples based on the weekly techniques shared. You will develop a bank of knowledge and be encouraged to experiment further to develop your confidence in using this wonderful drawing with thread technique. Course aim

This is an Improvers Free-Motion Embroidery Course designed to introduce you to specialist drawing with thread techniques.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Explore Free-Running Stitch to create shapes and Patterns.
  • Explore using Zig-Zag Free-Motion Embroidery and experiment with the tension on your sewing machine to give whipped stitches.
  • Consider how you can share your Creative Stitch Work to a wider audience and see what others are making on Social Media, to include Instagram.
  • Stitch onto Water Soluble Stabiliser and create Free-motion Embroidery Lace.
  • Experiment with layering threads, fabrics etc in layers of water soluble stabilisers and stitch with free-Motion Stitching.

What else do I need to know?

You will need a sewing machine with the facility to lower the feed-dog teeth, a free-motion Embroidery Foot, Embroidery hoop and a basic sewing kit of fabric, small scissors and a range of sewing machine threads in different colours. You will also need water Soluble Stabiliser and a notebook/pen.
