This course is designed to enable individuals and couples/families to start thinking about the emotive, personal and financial aspects of retirement. It will look at the effects retirement may have on individuals and their relationships with partners/families. We will look at the financial aspects relating to changes in income and expenditure and how these changes can be planned for as well as having an in-depth look at different pension types and the rules around State and Personal Pensions and pension freedoms.

Course aim

This course is to give an understanding of the financial and practical implications which may take place at retirement. It will aim to give students the ability to assess what the changes to their lifestyle may mean and how they can plan for this.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for those approaching or considering retirement.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Consider and understand the emotive and practical aspects around retirement.
  • Have an understanding of the financial changes in retirement and areas which need to be considered.
  • Understand the rules regarding State and Personal Pensions and the regulation of pension freedoms and retirement income
  • Explore opportunities in retirement around hobbies/activities, volunteering and secondary employment
  • Be able to prepare my own provisional Retirement Plan
