We will produce a theatre backdrop that will consist of paint on fabric/canvas and create several props from found objects and recycled materials. This will include working with timber, fabric and paper. A variety of crafts will be explored and the outcome will be used with in the community.

Course aim

This course will consist of making a backdrop of scenery and props for a local theatre group.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Make a positive contribution to the local community by working as part of a team to produce a piece of scenery to be used by a local theatrical group.
  • Apply a craft technique to either wood, fabric or paper to produce a theatrical prop, working as an individual, or with another learner.
  • Learn one special effect technique to use when painting scenery on canvas.
  • As a team, review and discuss pictures from the 1920's to identify key images to include in the set design.
  • Use the internet to source and view images of costumes and street scenes to inform a group discussion.
