Practical Art Techniques for Wellbeing

In this course, you will be encouraged to engage with art practice as a way to improve well-being. You will learn lots of practical, fun and easy art techniques; experimenting with various art materials and processes in a supportive environment. You will learn about some of the different genres and elements of art and produce finished pieces of work related to them. By the end of the course you will also have some basic knowledge of relevant artists.

Course aim

This course will engage students in art practice, using a range of practical art processes and materials as a way to improve their sense of well-being. Each session will start with a period of experimentation and progress into making a piece of art.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Be able to use a range of art materials and processes
  • Know about the different genres of art, reflect on them and produce artwork related to these genres which you personally find engaging.
  • Have some knowledge of relevant artists, art terms and formal elements
  • Engage with your own artistic practice in and outside of the sessions to enhance your sense of well-being
  • Use IT tools to access the resources on the Canvas and Zoom platforms

- You will need an internet connection and a personal email address - Access to a printer will be very useful - A good quality A4 sketchbook or cartridge paper - Dry and wet art materials (pencils/charcoal/pastels/acrylic and/or gouache paint/black Indian ink) - Brushes, card
