This course will look at the methodology for studying Family History. It is aimed at beginners who are keen to get started on their family tree journey. We will look at a number of resources, where they can be found, what we can discover from them and how we can use them in our research. By the end of the course, students will be familiar with and have a better understanding of the resources available to us.

This is a short course to introduce beginners to the basics of family history research.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Access and navigate relevant family history websites and use them to search for ancestors.
  • Identify and use a variety of online archive resources.
  • Develop research and analysis skills and look at wider research opportunities.
  • Use the context of the resources to discover more about the social history of ancestors.
  • Become more confident using the internet and developing digital skills.
