This is the perfect sewing course for you if you are looking to improve your skills in sewing and dress making. During the course you will be following a range of sewing patterns to create different types of garments and crafts.You will also be encouraged to make changes into a pattern to create a different style. Step by step support and feedback will be provided during the whole course. You are free to learn in your own time depending on the level of your skills and understanding of the subject. Our class is very friendly consisting students from different age groups and cultural backgrounds who are all very supportive to each other. Perfect environment to learn new skills.

Course aim

Exploring your sewing machine, using different types of decorative stitches, machine feet. Basics of dress making including ,taking body measurements and creating patterns. Introduction to the types of fabrics, sewing machine feet and overlocker.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand how to maintain a sewing machine.
  • Understand the use of three different sewing machine feet.
  • Describe at least two employment options available using sewing techniques/machines.
  • Access digital learning and contribute to it using WEA canvas platform.
  • Describe the purpose of an overlocker and how to use it.

All the equipment needed will be provided. Students are welcome to bring their own sewing machine/ overlocker to practice. Students will be required to bring their own fabrics.
