Developing ESOL skills for Employment is an integral part of a 2-week course designed to improve pre-intermediate/intermediate students' communication skills to help them seek employment or make progress in their current job. All four language skill areas (speaking, writing, reading and listening) will be used in order to develop students’ communication skills for employment.

Course aim

To build pre-intermediate/intermediate students' communication skills (speaking, writing, reading and listening) to enhance their chances of finding and sustaining employment.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Make statements of fact related to my employment history, and the skills and responsibilities my job(s) required.
  • Take part in formal interactions such as job interviews with reasonable confidence.
  • Take active part in informal discussions about jobs.
  • Identify the main points and ideas in job ads.
  • Recognise, understand and use key vocabulary in the topic of employment.

You need to bring: - enthusiasm and drive to engage and learn. - a notebook. - a pen or pencil. If you have a tablet or laptop, you are welcome to bring it to class. However, it is not essential nor a requirement.

Enrolment Conditions

This course is funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority but is also open to residents of other areas.
