Confidence to Learn ESOL for Employability

This is a short introductory course for pre-intermediate to intermediate level ESOL students who wish to find work or make progress in their employment. During this 2-week course, you will work on basic language skills to help you build your confidence in contexts related to employment. Such skills include amongst others the ability to talk and write about your employment history and/or skills you can bring to a job, locate, read and understand job ads and job descriptions, fill in job application forms, and effectively interact with people in the workplace. You will also be introduced to the basics of CV writing and job interviews.

Course aim

To build pre-intermediate / intermediate ESOL students' confidence and language skills in order to improve their employment prospects.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • List the jobs I did in the past in chronological order.
  • List some skills I used in my previous jobs.
  • Complete a job application forms with ease.
  • Name two useful websites for job search.
  • Filter a job search website to locate specific job openings.

This is a face-to-face course, but we will also use Canvas for online engagement. Therefore, access to a computer and the internet at home is essential. If you have a tablet or laptop, you are welcome to bring it to class. However, it is not a requirement. Bring a notebook and a pen (or pencil).
