Digital Art

Ref: C2527569

We will cover Krita's interface, including shortcuts and creating a smooth workflow within the digital workspace. We will follow that up by applying basic art fundamentals to the digital medium, such as values, colour and drawing. We will explore how to use layers and masking, customising and creating brushes. This will culminate in exploring textures within the digital medium to create a painterly effect.

Course aim

A course introducing Krita, a free digital painting software. This course is for complete beginners and artists who haven't tried digital art before and are curious about the transition to a digital platform.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners
  • This course is for beginners and improvers
  • Focused on beginners drawing and painting and those who have prior digital experience but haven't done digital art before.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate how to arrange the most productive digital workspace for myself.
  • Demonstrate how to use textures in my digital painting.
  • Explain basic digital colour mixing theory.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of values.
  • Explain the different edges used in painting and drawing.

How will I be taught?

What kind of feedback can I expect?

What else do I need to know?

You will need a laptop/desktop that supports Krita. A digital drawing tablet that has pressure sensitivity is handy. It isn't easy to draw with a mouse or touchpad. You will need to access zoom and Krita simultaneously, maybe using a separate device in addition, such as a phone for zoom.
