The course is for those to whom English is a second language. It will focus upon the spelling and pronunciation of words used in everyday situations. For example in the local community, shopping, house and home, school / college, health and wellbeing, culture, travel and transport. It will also cover speaking and listening practice in conversational English and reading texts.

Course aim

This is a basic English course designed for Esol students wishing to improve their everyday English

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Talk and write a sentence about myself, my family, my own country and engage in a simple conversation
  • Learn new vocabulary and understand simple shopping questions and answers
  • understand different types of transport and the vocabulary how to use transport in the UK - buy a ticket, ask relevant questions.
  • understand the names of the parts of body and how to ask questions when at doctors or chemist
  • submit documentation on a digital platform

This is face to face course so pen and paper would be useful Also you need access to Canvas as you need to complete WEA surveys which are on Canvas
