Working as a group we will devise a script through weekly discussion. Through weekly sessions we will create a play that will be staged by a WEA Drama group. The tutor will scribe story ideas, character ideas, dialogue and structure - resulting in a play that will be produced by the students of this Creative Writing course.

Course aim

This course is designed to produce a script based on individuals experience of the Covid lockdown. Working as a group, we will devise a piece of scripted theatre - that another WEA Drama group will perform on stage and share with the local community.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • You will work as a part of a creative team by producing a piece of intellectual property; a script.
  • You will gain storytelling techniques - such as character development and story arc exploration.
  • You will develop literacy skills - through writing dialogue, plot and exploring theme.
  • You will create a play that will be staged at The Washington Arts Centre and shared with the local community.
  • You will participate in discussions and meet like minded people in a creative, safe environment.
