Puzzled by pyramids? Taken aback by Tutankamun? Want to find out more about Ancient Egypt but really don't know where to start? This short course assumes no prior knowledge, and through the weeks will introduce some key themes including architecture, religion and art.. We will investigate a range of artefacts, iconic structures and archaeological sites from this ancient civilisation, along with introducing the concept of 'Egyptomania' and the history of research.
Course aim
Assuming no prior knowledge, this course will provide the learner with an Introduction to Ancient Egypt. It will introduce key themes in Egyptology, as well as an insight into the development of the subject
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is for beginners
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- be familiar with a map of Egypt and be able to point out at least three principal sites
- show an understanding of the timeline of Ancient Egypt
- demonstrate an awareness of the religion of Ancient Egypt
- describe some of the archaeological evidence from at least two sites in ancient Egypt
- name two archaeologists who have worked in Egypt, and what their contribution was to the subject
