Sewing for Beginners

This is the perfect sewing course for you if you are a beginner, new to sewing or just want to get back into sewing after a break and wishing to learn/ brush up basic skills in sewing, making crafts and dress making. A step by step help will be provided during the whole course. You are free to learn in your own time. The class is very friendly, safe and supportive. Perfect environment to learn new skills.

Course aim

The purpose of the course is covering: Basics of using a sewing machine. Introduction to different types of fabrics. Practice small sewing projects.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe the difference between a sewing machine and an over locker
  • Create a simple sewing pattern for a pair of trousers
  • Name two online platforms which can contribute to self employment
  • Make a contribution towards a group discussion by accessing course materials on canvas
  • Submit course documentation via the digital platform (CANVAS) provided by WEA

A selection of equipment and materials is provided for group activities. Students will have to bring their own materials for their personal projects. Sewing machines are available, but students are welcome to bring their own if they wish to practice with their own sewing machines.
