Enjoy writing stories and poetry on this friendly and supportive creative writing course. Each week we will look at a different aspect of creative writing with exercises that will inspire you to write and develop your skills. This course will be taught online (using Zoom and Canvas) and is suitable for beginners and those with previous writing experience.

Course aim

To help you begin and develop your skills in creative writing. You will practise different techniques and approaches and apply these to your own work. You will learn how to evaluate your own and others work and how to present work to an audience.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Plan my writing by noting and developing initial ideas.
  • Read, discuss and reflect on a range of work by published writers.
  • Produce a piece of creative writing in response to an exercise set by the tutor.
  • Describe where and how to find inspiration for my writing outside of the course.
  • Receive and give constructive and supportive feedback. Submit documentation/writing on a digital platform

You will need an internet connection, speakers, a microphone and a webcam so that you can use our video learning platform, Zoom. You will need a personal email address to join the WEA’s digital learning platform, Canvas.
