This course will help you to gain skills and confidence to cook tasty meals. It will also give you the opportunity to start exploring how to cook some delicious recipes from scratch. In these sessions you will learn how to cook some classic dishes following step by step instructions from our expert tutor; learn about the herbs, spices and the aromas used in some home cooking cuisines. Learn how to handle raw food safely and how to stay safe in the kitchen when using different equipment. Our learning will be in a friendly, safe and interactive environment. We will cook and share what we have created. Then you can take the recipes home so that you can recreate the dishes any time you choose.

Course aim

Learners will improve their cooking skills and confidence in the kitchen and experience the positive wellbeing effects of working together in a group.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Work as a group to prepare ingredients and make a stew.
  • Prepare a biscuit base and cheesecake topping.
  • Observe how to combine spices and herbs in a curry or other spicy dish.
  • To learn how to handle raw food safely and how to store cooked food.
  • Be aware of the importance of hand and personal hygiene in the kitchen.
